The area beyond the margins of a glacier where meltwater deposits sand, gravel, and mud washed out from the glacier.
A flat or gentle sloping surface of glaciofluvial sediments deposited by meltwater streams at the edge of a glacier. Usually found in close spatial association with moraines.
An extensive, relatively flat area of sand, silt, and gravel formed below a glacier by meltwater streams and rivers.
An extensive lowland area of coarse textured, glaciofluvial material.
A broad area of gravel and sandbars deposited by a braided stream network, fed by the meltwater of a glacier.
The surface of a broad body of outwash formed in front of a glacier.
A plain of glaciofluvial deposits of stratified drift from meltwater-fed, braided, and overloaded streams beyond a glacier’s morainal deposits.
an extensive, relatively flat area of such deposits
A broad, low-slope angle alluvial plain composed of glacially eroded, sorted sediment (termed outwash), that has been transported by meltwater. The alluvial plain begins at the foot of a glacier and may extend for miles. Typically, the sediment becomes finer grained with increasing distance from the glacier terminus. -------------------------- Pit Pond A depression in an outwash plain by the melting of a block of ice floated to its depositional site by meltwater and subsequently buried by sediment. As it melts, a depression in the surface of the outwash plain develops.
A sandy plain formed when glacial meltwater streams in front of the glaciers spread over a very wide, flat area. The sand was swept along into both glaciated and unglaciated areas by the water. Between Hancock and Plover, interstate highway 39 crosses part of a vast outwash plain. Visible along the Ice Age Trail from the Harrison Hills of Lincoln County, the Antigo Flats of Langlade County is a large outwash plain.
A smooth plain covered by deposits from water flowing from glaciers.
A landform created as the glaciers melted, and huge rivers of meltwater were formed. These rivers carried sediment away from the glaciers. Much like with the development of a kame, the heavier material settled out first, filling in the low areas, while the clay and silt were carried further downstream into lakes. In this way, broad large expanses of gravel and sand were created.
A broad, gently sloping sheet of outwash deposited by meltwater streams flowing in front of or beyond a glacier, and formed by coalescing outwash fans; the surface of a broad body of outwash.
The floodplain or braidplan of a glacial meltwater stream;
flood plain formed by streams drawing from the front of a glacier.
(231X) - A river deposition coast. Deposits are derived from meltwater from the front of a glacier. Grades from gravel near the glacier edge to sand farther away. Other types of glacial deposits include moraines (2320), composed of poorly sorted till, and drumlins (2330), hills sculpted by glaciers, that are composed of well-sorted till.
broad, gently sloping, alluvial surface underlain by outwash sand and gravel that was deposited by glacial meltwater streams.
a broad, flat plain created by the deposition of sediment carried by the meltwater of a glacier. [AHDOS
