Other "bones" may include the epiotic, sphenotic, opisthotic and (in mammals) the petrosal. The otic capsule is typically setoff anterolaterally from the occiput by a fissure or gap, and may be bordered anteriorly by a ventral fissure separating it from the sphenoid region.
