The Oraon, or Uraon, people inhabit various states across central and eastern India as well as Bangladesh. Traditionally they depended on the forest for their ritual and economic livelihood, but in recent times they have become mainly settled agriculturalists. Small numbers of Oraon have emigrated to the northeastern part of India, where they are mainly employed in tea estates.
