A coarse-grained igneous rock that is host to copper/nickel deposits in the Sudbury area of Ontario.
Coarse-grained igneous rock composed of the minerals plagioclase feldspar and orthopyroxene.
A basic, coarsely crystalline plutonic igneous rock containing the plagioclase mineral labradorite as the main component and differing from gabbro by having orthopyroxene as the main ferromagnesian mineral present.
Igneous rock found in the lunar highlands.
A coarse grained igneous rock of basic composition consisting essentially of plagioclase (near labradorite in composition) and orthopyroxene.
An intrusive rock similar to gabbro but containing an orthopyroxene (hypersthene) as the dominant mafic mineral
a granular igneous rock solidified below the earth;s surface, containing pyroxene in orthorhombic form and plagioclase containing calcium. Norite is a variety of gabbro, often associated with ore deposits. [AHDOS
Norite is a mafic intrusive igneous rock composed largely of the calcium rich plagioclase labradorite and hypersthene with olivine. Norite is essentially undistinguishable from gabbro without thin section study under the petrographic microscope. It occurs with gabbro and other mafic to ultramafic rocks in layered intrusions which are often associated with platinum orebodies such as in South Africa, the Skaergaard complex of Greenland, and the Stillwater complex in Montana, USA.
