Somewhat of a misnomer, nonstick actually means stick-resistant. That is, cookware has been coated with a material such as Teflon so that foods are less likely to stick to the pan's surface without the use of additional fats or oils. For this reason, nonstick cookware is often recommended as a way to reduce the amount of fat in one's diet.
