The title of the native sovereigns of Hyderabad, in India, since 1719.

title adopted by Europeans when speaking of the ruler of Hyderabad, but not one generally used by his subjects, or by Indians. The latter would speak of him as the Nawab.

Nizam-ul-Mulk was the title of the ruler of Hyderabad state from 1724 to 1949. The state is therefore sometimes referred to as a nizamate. Like their Mughal predecessors, the nizams were Muslims and very secular in matters of State.
