Definitions for "Murrine"
Cane that has been configured, stretched, heated, and cut in half to create an image.
A decorative technique for glass in which glass canes of various colors are joined together in a pre-configured pattern and then heated so that they fuse into one mass; the resulting bundle is drawn out to form a long rod which is then cut into transverse sections to produce discs (murrines) reflecting the original design; the discs are then arranged in a decorative pattern and fused together.
A glass technique first developed by the Romans and rediscovered in late 1800's. Thin sections of glass rods are fused together and then blown, formed or molded into the desired shape. The rods are often designed to create a floral or geometric design. See our INSERT LINK!!!!!!! Murano Glass Pendants and Murano Glass paperweights for examples.
