A natural family of plants, used in some classifications for saprophytic herbs; it is sometimes included in the family Pyrolaceae, and contains the genera Monotropa and Sarcodes.
Monotropaceae was a small family of flowering plants under the old Cronquist system of plant classification. It included the eight genera Allotropa, Hemitomes, Monotropa, Monotropsis, Pityopus, Pleuricospora, Pterospora, Sarcodes.
