Monaghan (Muineachán in Irish) is a town in the Republic of Ireland, the administrative capital of County Monaghan. The name derives from a diminutive plural form of the Irish word muine meaning "brake" (a thickly overgrown area) or sometimes "hillock". The county council's preferred interpretation is "land of the little hills", a reference to the numerous drumlins in the area.

Monaghan was a constituency used in elections to Dáil Éireann, the lower house of parliament in the Republic of Ireland. The constituency spanned the entire area of County Monaghan.

Monaghan is a former parliamentary constituency in Ireland, returning two Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
