Definitions for "Microfilaments"
Fine protein filaments visible with the electron microscope; components of the cytoskeleton.
Rods composed of actin that are found in the cytoskeleton and are involved in cell division and movement. PICTURE 1 | PICTURE 2
Cytoskeletal fibers (~7 nm in diameter) that are formed by polymerization of monomeric globular (G) actin, exhibit polarity, and associate with a variety of actin-binding proteins; also called actin filaments. Microfilaments play an important role in muscle contraction, cytokinesis, cell movement, platelet activation, and other cellular functions and structures.
