Definitions for "Marcia"
an english name, ultimately derived from the name of the roman god "mars".
Marcia (birth and death dates unknown) was the cousin and mistress of 2nd century AD Roman Emperor Commodus. She was one of the key conspirators in his assassination led by Praetorian prefect Quintus Aemilius Laetus. The reasons why Marcia agreed to take part in the assassination are unclear although she knew that her life was endangered as Commodus was insane and increasingly dangersome and she did not want to undergo the same fate which befell Lucilla.
Marcia (usually prounounced "Mar-shah" in English, though a few bearers of the name prefer "Mar-SEE-uh"), often shortened to Marcie ("Mar-see"), is a female given name derived from Latin meaning "dedicated to Mars".
Marcia, daughter of Lucius Marcius Philippus, the stepdaughter of Atia Balba Caesonia, stepsister of Octavia the Younger and Octavian (later Augustus), and was the second wife of Marcus Porcius Cato Uticensis who he married following his divorce from Atilia for adultery. Marcia became the stepmother to his son Marcus Porcius Cato and his daughter Porcia Catonis, first the wife of Marcus Bibulus and later Marcus Junius Brutus.
