Monoamine oxidase (MAO) is an enzyme that breaks down dopamine. In PD, a MAOI-B inhibitor can be taken to help reduce the breakdown of dopamine. Selegiline (Eldepryl, Clondepryl, Deprenyl) is a MAO-B inhibitor.
