A health policy designed to help offset the heavy medical expenses resulting from catastrophic or prolonged illnesses or injuries. Generally, it provides benefit payments of 75"80 percent of all reasonable and customary medical expenses above the deductible amount that is paid by the insured, up to the maximum limit of liability and within the time period provided by the policy.
