A six-digit code assigned to each item which describes where it belongs. The first two digits stand for the system ( 01 = Dallas Public Library), the second two digits reflect the agency (01 20 =Audelia Road) and the last two digits describe a location within that agency where the material will be found (01200 Audelia Road – Easy). Each six-digit code has a thirty-space translation ( Audelia Road – Easy) that will appear in the holdings information of the catalog. Embedded within each location code is agency-specific information (address to be added to mail from that agency, printing of receipts, etc.). See the definitions elsewhere of specific types of location codes: HOLDING LOCATION (also sometimes referred to as the LOAN LOCATION) LAST LOCATION NEXT LOCATION PERMANENT LOCATION

a code assigned by the department
indicates where in a library materials may be shelved, e.g. AV, REFERENCE, PERIODICALS, STACKS, etc.

A two-character code assigned to LIAS locations to designate libraries, special collections, or shelving areas. Any given library may have several locations, each of which has its own code. The code is displayed by the two characters on the LIAS MARC screen in the 090$c, but displays as a full name, and its address within the library, on the record, or public display.
A six digit code assigned to each item which describes where it belongs. The first two digits stand for the system (01 = Dallas Public Library), the second two digits reflect the agency (xx20 = Audelia Road) and the last two digits describe a location within that agency where the material will be found (xxxx07 = easy readers). Thus 012007 would be found at the Audelia Road Branch, with the "Easy Readers", a special shelf or shelves in the children's section. Each branch and each Central Library unit has a three letter acronym like "BAR" for "BRANCH [Library] AUDELIA ROAD" or "CFA" for "CENTRAL [Library] FINE ARTS". A table showing all of these acronyms and their corresponding, general numerical location codes appears toward the bottom of this page.
