also Re-Enactment, Re-Creation. There are various divisions and conflicting descriptions of these terms, but in general: Any organization that attempts to re-create a period of history through various means i.e. the Arts and Sciences, combat, role playing, cooking etc.

Living History is the activity of bringing history to life. Most combat groups use the " six foot rule", if it looks authentic from six feet away that will do. However living history groups will try to provide as authentic an experience as possible for the public, demonstrating traditional skills and displaying accurately constructed costume, armour, furniture and so on. The quality of Living History can vary enormously, from weekend enthusiasts and combat groups with nothing better to do, to highly practiced professionals, with expensively prepared props who making a living visiting schools and heritage sites. The favourite jape of Living History specialists is to pretend that they do not understand modern expressions ("what is this disc-cow, of which you speake"), or are confused by modern objects, such as watches, or are offended by modern practices, such as ladies without hats. The amusement this affords them keeps them chuckling through the long winter nights.
