Definitions for "Liberal Arts and Sciences"
The philosophical basis for Linfield’s approach to education. This approach is designed to provide general knowledge and intellectual skills rather than occupational or vocational training. Many graduates pursue specialized and/or professional studies after earning the Bachelor’s degree at Linfield.
Befitting the Baccalaureate tradition and current practice, the Fitchburg State College candidate is required to complete a minimum of 60 credits in a college. For details, see "Liberal Arts and Sciences Program."
A term referring to academic studies of subjects in the humanities (language, literature, philosophy and the arts), the social sciences (economics, sociology, anthropology, history and political science) and the physical sciences (mathematics, physics, biology and chemistry).
