An imaginary line running through an aircraft from left to right through its center of gravity.

The axis extending through the center of gravity of an aircraft, and parallel to a line connecting the tips of the wings. The lateral axis is sometimes called the "y" axis. Pitch is a motion around the lateral axis.

An imaginary line passing through the centre of gravity and parallel to a line joining the wing tips. Movement about the lateral axis is termed "pitching."
