A digital data storage medium consisting of a thin disk onto which the data is impressed by a laser, in the form of a linear sequence of dots; same as optical disk. The data is subsequently read back by the use of a laser beam. See also compact disk.
CAV- constant angular velocity In CAV players the disk rotates at a constant speed and one revolution of the disk corresponds exactly to one frame (two fields). CLV - constant linear velocity In CLV players the rotation speed varies but the speed of the pick up over the disk surface is constant which allows more information to be packed on the outer parts of the disk, hence a longer playing time.
An analog or digital storage medium written and read by laser.
a large phonograph size record that has images, video, sound and other impressions permanently pressed into its service. It is played on a laser disk player.
A plastic disk or platter on which text, video and graphic images can be encoded by means of microscopic pits engraved into the disk; also known as videodiscs. Laser disks are read by special players that transmit a laser beam onto the disks.
Same as an optical CD, except 12" in diameter.
