( 時代劇) - Japanese word referring to a specific sub-genre of Japanese drama. A drama series or movie that is considered a period drama, or a drama referencing a period before the 1900's. Usually, jidaigeki focuses on the Edo or Tokugawa period (1600 AD to 1867 AD), but it could involve period even before it.
Period drama. Especialy in the age of Samurai domination.
Japan. The name means "period drama," and the period is usually the Edo period of Japanese history, from 1600 to 1868. Some, however, are set much earlier — Portrait of Hell, for example, is set during the late Heian period — and the early Meiji era is also a popular setting.
