Interlaced GIFs appear first with poor resolution and then improve in resolution until the entire image has arrived, as opposed to arriving linearly from the top row to the bottom row. This is great to get a quick idea of what the entire image will look like while waiting for the rest. This doesn't do much for you if your Web browser doesn't support progressive display as the image is downloaded, but non-rogressive-display Web browsers will still display interlaced GIFs once they have arrived in their entirety. You can make transparent and interlaced GIFs through the Web without running any utility software on your own system through the Visioneering image manipulation page, which will access your image through the Web and produce an enhanced version for you to save.
A GIF image file where the scan lines are stored in an alternating order, so that as the image is read it appears to fade in or get sharper. Do not use this option for saving GIF images that you will use for GIF animations.

(See GIF.) The interlaced version stores rows of bitmapped data out of order: All of the even numbered rows are stored first and all of the odd rows are stored last. Interlaced GIF uses a four pass interlacing. The first pass starts at row zero and reads every eighth row of bitmap information. The second pass starts on the fourth row and reads every fourth row. The third pass starts on the second row and reads every second row while the last pass starts with the first row and reads every second row.
