Definitions for "INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY"
A swimming event of four strokes that are swum in a specified order – fly, back, breast, and free.
In an IM, all four of the competitive strokes are swum by one swimmer in the following order: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, then freestyle.
In individual medley events, the swimmer must swim all four main strokes in the following order: Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle. Each section must be finished in accordance with the rules for the stroke concerned.
