Definitions for "HYPERSENSITIVITY PNEUMONITIS"
A condition in which lung tissue is highly sensitive and easily inflamed by certain stressors. This is a type of chronic pneumonia caused by a chemical or microorganism.
An interstitial lung disease caused by repeated inhalation of organic dusts, e.g., Farmer's lung.
May develop following either short-term (acute) or long-term (chronic) exposure to molds. The disease resembles bacterial pneumonia and is uncommon. (EPA, 2001)
