The Hawiye are a clan of the Somali ethnic group, who live in central and southern Somalia, and in larger numbers in Kenya and Ethiopia, as well as in other international communities. Like other Somalis, Hawiye members trace their ancestry to Irir Samaale. The CIA and Human Rights Watch indicate that Hawiye is the largest Somali clan.
