Gorillaz are a British virtual band formed in 1999, composed of four fictional animated members: 2D, Murdoc, Noodle and Russel. The band was created by Damon Albarn of Blur, and Jamie Hewlett, the co-creator of the comic book Tank Girl. Their style is broadly 'alternative', but with a large number of other influences.
Gorillaz is the self-titled debut album by Gorillaz, the virtual group masterminded by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and was first released in March 2001 (see 2001 in British music). It includes the singles "Clint Eastwood", "19-2000", "Rock the House" and "Tomorrow Comes Today". It reached #3 UK and was an unexpected hit in the U.S., hitting #14 and selling over a million and a half copies.
