Geet (Hindi: गीत, Urdu: گیت ) is a word in several Indo-Aryan languages, deriving from the Sanskrit word gītā (गीता), which means a song or a poem. It is a genre of poetry in most contemporary Indo-Aryan languages like Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujrati, etc. It is a form of expression used by 1950s Indian subcontinental musicians and emphasizes slow rythmic music accompanied by voice.
