Definitions for "FLV"
Flash Video. A popular file format developed by Macromedia. Increasing numbers of applications can now export video files in FLV format. The main benefit is ease of embedding into a web page (using Dreamweaver) and the ability to stream high quality content over the web.
A Macromedia Flash MX video file in which the video and audio are compressed. When an .FLV clip is added to the timeline in Flash, the video is not compressed a second time, so the import is considerably less time consuming. FLV files can be created using Flash with Sorenson Spark or Sorenson Spark Professional (Pro). Spark Pro has the added advantage of being able to batch process entire directories of video to .FLV or .SWF format for later use at a higher quality and smaller file size than is possible using the standard version of Sorenson Spark.
FLV (Flash Video) is a proprietary file format used to deliver video over the Internet using Adobe Flash Player (formerly known as Macromedia Flash Player) version 6, 7, 8, or 9. FLV content may also be embedded within SWF files. Notable users of the FLV format include You Tube, Google Video, Reuters.com and My Space.
