A fiscal sponsor (the preferred term) is a public charity that agrees to sponsor the charitable programs or activities of another organization or of individuals. A fiscal sponsor is legally responsible for all funds contributed to it for the sponsored project and must have complete discretion and control over the use of those funds.
a New York State non-profit organization that applies to NYSCA on behalf of individual artists or unincorporated arts organizations or groups. The fiscal sponsor accepts responsibility to serve as a fiscal conduit for a NYSCA-funded project, receiving and disbursing funds related to the grant, and administering the requirements throughout the NYSCA grant process, including final reporting of grant activity. The unincorporated artist or group completes the project activity.

A Fiscal Sponsor agrees to accept and be responsible for grant monies, including all financial record keeping and reporting. The Fiscal Sponsor of an applicant organization is accountable to the Endowment for the financial outcomes of the grant.
A tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization that serves as the applicant for another organization or a collaborative that is not formally incorporated. The mission statement of the Fiscal Sponsor should be similar to the mission statement of the organization or organizations it represents. The Fiscal Sponsor agrees to be accountable to the Endowment for the programmatic and financial outcomes of the grant. All information in the "Organization Profile" section of the Grant Proposal form (including the EIN number) describes the Fiscal Sponsor.
