Definitions for "Expert evidence"
Testimony given by those qualified to speak with authority regarding scientific, technical or professional matters.
Testimony given in relation to some specific, technical or professional matter by experts, i.e., persons qualified to speak as authoritaties because of their special training, skills or familiarity with the subject. Only on matters where experts are necessary.
Evidence of a skilled person who can assist the court with their opinion from the viewpoint of their particular professional experience. Can include, Doctors, Engineers, Occupational Therapists, Surgeons, Physiotherapists and Accountants.
Leave of the court is necessary for a child to be examined by an expert for the purpose of preparing a report for the proceedings. Includes psychiatric or psychological assessment and any other physical examination (Children Act 1989, Section 38(6)).
