Extended X-ray absorption fine structure. a type of X-ray absorption spectroscopy used to obtain structural information about molecules. Analysis of the X-ray absorption spectrum of the absorbing element provides information about the local structure around the studied atoms such as distance, type and number of the surrounding atoms. For example, aluminium EXAFS analysis gives information about the nearest neighbouring atoms surrounding aluminium atoms.
