Definitions for "Eponymous"
A daunting word for a simple concept: an eponymous hero is a hero whose name is the title of the play, as in Hamlet, Macbeth and Othello.
Named for someone else; in the case of the patriarchs, such figures as Jacob are frequently considered to be fictitious characters to whom the common stories of the people have been attributed and whose name is derived from the people themselves (Jacob = Israel).
Eponymous is the first greatest hits album by the band R.E.M., released in 1988. It was their last authorized release on I.R.S. Records, to whom they had been contracted since 1982, having just signed with Warner Bros.
