A reservation for a system resource.
The z/OS expression (often abbreviated to ENQ) for requesting resource serialization. ENQ can be used to put a user-named entry in the system resource queue in order to prevent another program using a serially usable resource. See also DEQ.
To submit a message to a message queue. Messages are enqueued by user interfaces originating new mail messages, servers receiving mail from remote sources, and intermediate processing programs such as document converters (which also dequeue messages).

Shared memory structures that serialize access to database resources. Enqueues are local to one instance if Real Application Clusters is not enabled. When you enable Real Application Clusters, enqueues can be local or global to a database. (See also: latch, lock, and resource.)
