Definitions for "Dojinshi"
Keywords:  fanzine, manga, fan, japan, jinshi
Dojinshi are fan produced items for some storyline, particularly fan drawn manga. Doing this is actually quasi-legal in Japan and the makers of the official manga know that the more dojinshi material out there, the greater the fanship of the real stuff. Many dojinshi groups are very successful and the quality for dojinshi manga ranges from photocopied and stapled booklets to professionally bound works. "Dojinshi" literally means something like "same stuff, different people".
Japanese word for Fanzine. A cottage industry of staggering proportions, the Dojinshi industry is humungous.
Amateur manga created by fans either for distribution among other fans or for sale at the massive comic conventions that take place in Japan. Dôjinshi are most famous in the West as explicitly erotic parodies of popular manga and anime series, but those make up only a small portion of the huge dôjinshi industry. Many popular manga creators, like CLAMP and Kenichi Sonoda, began in dôjinshi.
