Digital images are produced from scanned images or photographs taken with a digital camera. They can be read by a computer and sent to pictureframes.com, among other destinations. Uploading your digital images via our Editions portal is the most efficient and least expensive way to begin an edition.
For database purposes, digital images are to be taken at High Resolution (minimum of 1280 X 960), color, jpg format. After the images are downloaded, rename each file according to 7-digit code (see Image Protocol).

Analog characteristics are transformed into one or more precise characters and maintained as separate descriptions. For instance, as the gray shading of an X-ray moves from light to dark (an analog or continuous description), samples of the change can be recorded as a discrete shade of gray that, when combined with all samples, make up a digital image.
These are created using a gridded mosaic of light sensitive picture elements, called pixels, embedded on a computer chip. The pixels emit electrical signals in proportion to the amount of light they receive and these signals are converted to numbers and then stored electro magnetically - in a computer or on a disc, for example. Digital images can be manipulated and altered by computer and regenerated in many ways: on computer or television screens, on film, printed or projected. The technology for producing digital images is evolving rapidly with new possibilities constantly emerging.
This type of image is produced electronically using digital cameras, scanners, and software programs. The images are files that can be displayed from a computer monitor, printed on paper or stored as a file on media such as CD-ROMs.
