One of three decommissioning options established by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Decon is immediate decontamination and dismantlement, the option selected for the Haddam Neck Plant. The other two options are Safestor and Entomb. Safestor is putting a nuclear power plant into a safe condition and delaying decontamination and dismantlement activities for as long as 60 years. Entomb is encasing in a structurally long-lived substance, e.g. concrete, with future dismantlement option.
