A point used to distinguish decimal fractions from whole numbers.
The dot that follows the third digit in a DDC number. In strict usage the word "decimal" is not accurate; however, common usage is followed in this edition's explanatory material.
In a decimal, the dot (as in 4.5) separating the ones place from the tenths place. In some countries the decimal point is a comma or raised dot.
A decimal point is a dot that separates the a number into the whole number part (on the left of the decimal point) and the fraction (to the right of the decimal point). For example in 21.46, 21 is the whole number and .46 (forty-six hundredths) is the fraction.
A period or dot separating the ones place from the tenths place in decimal numbers or dollars from cents in money. It looks like a period. Example: For "2.13" the decimal point is after the two.
