Decay of young seedlings at ground level following fungal attack. Often the result of soil borne diseases and over watering.
Sometimes called Seedling Disease. A condition which attacks the seedlings or plantlets of African Violets. Damping Off is spread by fungi such as Pythium and Phytophthora. The condition causes plantlets to wilt and collapse. More information.
a fungal disease which attacks young seedlings at ground level causing them to rot and fall over. Overcrowding of seedlings and poor drainage of seed mix are common causes. Destroy seedlings as soon as detected.
The death of seedlings by either over watering or disease or a combination of both.
The killing of young seedling by certain fungi that cause decay of the stem, or roots. ( BCFT)
The collapse of seedlings ascribed to the attacks of fungus organisms such as Botrytis vulgaris and Pythium Species.
Sudden wilting and death of seedling plants resulting from attack by microorganisms.
a soil fungi disease causing seedlings to rot, wilt and die.
soil borne fungal pathogen which attacks the stems of small seedlings at soil level
Any of a number of fungal diseases which attack seedlings, causing the stem to wither at the soil line, collapsing the plant. There is no good cure for affected plants, but any remaining plants can be saved by removing all the diseased material and moving the seedlings to a warm, bright, airy location. Proper thinning and avoidance of over watering, especially during cloudy periods is the best preventive measure.
a plant disease caused by a fungus; diseased condition of seedlings in excessive moisture
The collapse and possible death of cuttings, or seedlings, usually due to attack at ground level by soil-borne fungi. ‘Cheshunt Compound' can be used to combat this problem.
A soil borne disease which tends to occur mainly in very damp conditions and can completely kill off a seedling crop. Best avoided by making sure that crops sown under cover are given adequate ventilation and pricked out as soon as possible, and only sowing outdoors when conditions are suitable (i.e. avoiding periods when the ground remains wet constantly for days on end). Using sterile compost for indoor sowings and a seedling-strength mixture of seaweed fertiliser may also help.
A fungal disease that most often attacks seedlings, causing them to collapse and die.
Fungal disease attacking just emerged seedlings. Use sterilised soil.
Over watering seedlings promotes the growth of mildew that causes seedlings to keel over with shriveled stems. The most common disease of greenhouse seedlings, it is aggravated by extreme swings in temperature like warm days and cold nights. The best prevention is to water in mid-morning and to allow the soil surface to dry out between waterings.
Failure of seedlings or young plants caused by fungus which roots off the stem at the soil line.
A fungus disease which attacks young seedlings, causing them to collapse and die suddenly (see page xxx).
A fungus, usually affecting seedlings and causes the stem to rot off at soil level. Sterilized potting soil and careful sanitation practices usually prevent this.
A disease of seeds or young seedlings caused by fungi, usually occurring under wet conditions.
Happens in young seedlings. A rapid death caused by fungi.
The death of seedlings by fungal disease, either before or after they emerge from the pod. See Seed Starting: Damping Off
a fungus that will cause the stems to rot. This is often seen in propagators which are too wet.
