The tailoring of units of competence and associated training by training organisations to provide a flexible response to industry and enterprise requirements. For training packages, customisation is the tailoring of units of competence by the inclusion, modification or substitution of competency units within their alignment with AQF qualifications.
Rules governing changes to qualifications within Training Packages to meet customer needs. Usually involves adding options to a qualification's packaging rules. Term also refers to the limits of flexibility within a training package. Sometimes misused to refer to the re-packaging of units of competence from different Training Packages to form new accredited courses outside Training Packages.

Tailoring to individual requirements; (in vocational education and training) the process of tailoring a program to meet the specific needs of clients. Customised qualifications are devised by registered training organisations, created through combining competency standards drawn from two or more different endorsed training packages to create a new qualification outcome. Such qualifications must meet the requirements of the Australian Qualifications Framework, the Customisation Policy of the National Training Quality Council and the customisation advice of the relevant training packages.
