ACRONYM - Approach temperature. Usually the difference between cooling water temperature in to compressed air temperature out of an inter-cooler or after-cooler. Sometimes used to define oil cooler efficiency (cooling water temperature in to oil temperature out) ( 200)
(Conductivity, Temperature, Depth sensor) -- An instrument, about the size of 3 rolls of paper towels stuck end-to-end, which can be attached to a wire and sent to depths of 1000s of meters. Data are collected 16 times per second and used to plot the horizontal and vertical structure of such things as temperature and salinity. The CTD can be attached to a Rosette as well as towed instruments like the MOCNESS. See also XCTD.
Conductivity Temperature Density
Canopy Temperature Depression; physiological parameter.
An oceanographic instrument that measures temperature conductivity and depth, it can also measure other pertinent marine parameters.
acronym that refers to a device used to measure the onductivity, emperature, and epth of sea water
An instrument package that measures Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth as the package is lowered through the water. Additional sensors for measuring oxygen concentration, chlorophyll, suspended solids, and light penetration are integrated with the CTD instrument-computer package.
abbreviated term for equipment on the water sampling rosette; measures onductivity, emperature and epth
One of the most commonly used electronic instruments in oceanography, which is lowered on a conducting cable from a ship to measure the temperature, pressure and electrical conductivity of ocean water and the height above the seafloor. From these measurements, scientists can calculate water depth, salinity, and density. By letting cable out or pulling it in, scientists can measure water properties at different depths. Some CTDs have batteries and computers that allow them to be self-recording so they can be moored in one spot to make measurements for days or months. | | | | | | | | | | | N | O | | | | | | | X | Y | Z
Conductivity, Temperature, and Depth profiler
Abbreviation for conductivity–temperature–depth profiler.
