a summary of the material presented in each course and the concepts and skills students are introduced to, practice, or apply
State adopted descriptions of courses for grades 6-12 in basic education, exceptional student education, and career education programs in Florida. These descriptions include statements of major concepts and content and a list of course requirements correlated to the Sunshine State Standards.
Located in the back of the catalog, the course description tells the student what is taught in the course, and identifies any prerequisites for the course.
The first line of a course description, the course information line, contains the discipline code and course number on the left, the course title in the middle and the course weight on the right. The credit weight may be preceded, if deemed appropriate, by an abbreviation (see Abbreviations above) indicating the term or session in which the course is normally taught. The course information line is followed by a brief description of the content of the course (more information is often available from the department) and in some cases may end with a statement that the course is cross-listed in another academic discipline. The description in turn is followed, where applicable, by a prerequisite, co-requisite or credit exclusion statement. Other course types may be listed as well, (i.e. Irregular, Studio Course, Division B, etc.) Contact Hours: Any deviation from the normal number of three contact hours per week for a course, will be noted on the left at the end of the course description.
This description summarizes the information that is taught in a college course. Each course is described in the College Bulletin and lists the number of credits and credit hours.
