(CT) - An abbreviation for continuous tone. A color or greyscale image format capable of illustrating continuously varying tonal ranges, as opposed to line art.
A contraction of the words "continuous tone". A contone is an image which contains a continuous range of shades of colors. An example of a contone is a photograph or a watercolor painting.
A technique used by color printing technologies, which is a compromise between increased halftone cell size (giving more shades per halftone cell) and increased resolution (giving less invisible halftone cells).
