Average conditions based on historical data. Seasonal climatologies represent best estimate of average conditions for each month (January through December).
Our climatology holdings contain data that represent averages over several years. For example, a climatology derived from monthly rainfall data for the period 1951 through 1980, might include 12 months of data, each the monthly average over that 30 year time period. Climatology data are often used to detect long-term trends or anomalies in climate conditions such as precipitation and temperature. EOS-WEBSTER classifies holdings according to temporal characteristics called "date class". Date classes are listed in our Data Guides and on the View Matching Holdings page of the Search and Retrieve Tool under the "Description of Our Holdings that Match Your Search Criteria". Date classes can be used as free text filters in the Search and Retrieve Tool (on the Data page).
