Knot free wood. In Radiata pine this is grown on the pruned (bottom 8 metres approx) part of each tree - the butt log. Knot free Radiata pine is highly sort after and therefore the most valuable portion of each tree as the wood is used for decorative, furnishing and finishing timber purposes.
Wood showing no (or negligible) defects caused by knots, resin pockets or mechanical damage and usually displaying straight and even grain patterns. Clearwood is found in all trees. Pruning is designed to grow additional amounts, especially in long lengths.
