Definitions for "Chuchotage"
Chuchotage (from the French chuchoter, to whisper) is a form of simultaneous interpreting, where the interpreter whispers a simultaneous translation of the speaker's speech to a limited number of listeners, without recourse to any simultaneous interpreting equipment or any other such equipment. Normally, this service is only used when one or two of the participants at the conference are unfamiliar with the main language in use at the conference. The interpreter also provides a consecutive interpreting facility, should any of the participants in question wish to intervene and make a remark.
