Definitions for "Chorioretinitis"
inflammation of the choroid layer behind the retina
An inflammation of the back of the eye involving the choroid and retina. It may be due to a number of different diseases, which affect the body such as toxoplasmosis, histoplasmosis, sarcoidosis, tuberculosis and syphilis.
The middle layer of the eyeball is called the choroid. The choroid consists mainly of blood vessels that extend forward from behind the eye near the optic nerve. If the blood vessel becomes inflamed, the retina may be affected and vision loss may result from the formation of retinal scars. Although medications can greatly help to resolve this problem, repeated attacks are common and may result in severe vision loss.
