In Greek mythology, Charybdis or Kharybdis (Greek — ΧάÏυβδις) was a sea monster, daughter of Poseidon and Gaia. She takes form as a monstrous mouth. She swallows huge amounts of water three times a day and then belches them back out again creating whirlpools.
