Chaplygin is a large lunar impact crater that lies on the far side of the Moon. It is located to the southeast of the huge Mendeleev walled plain, about mid-way between Schliemann crater to the northeast and Marconi crater to the southwest. In dimension, this crater is about the same size as Albategnius on the near side.
