Definitions for "Cetane Rating"
Diesel fuel rating system of how quickly the fuel burns. The higher the rating the slower and more controlled the diesel burns.
Cetane numbers rate the ignition properties of diesel fuels. Just as the octane number rates the value and quality of petrol. The higher the cetane number, the more fuel-efficient the fuel. Biodiesel has a higher cetane number than petrol diesel because of its higher oxygen content. This means that engines run smoother and create less noise when running on Biodiesel.
A measure of the ignition value of diesel fuel. The higher the cetane rating, the better the fuel. Diesel fuel cetane rating is roughly comparable to gasoline octane rating.
