Definitions for "CENTREFIRE"
A cartridge with the primer located in the centre of the cartridge case head. Generally a much higher powered cartridge than a rimfire.
Ammunition in which a priming charge or percussion cap is contained centrally in the base of the cartridge casing. Centrefire ammunition is inherently more powerful than rimfire.
A cartridge ignited by a primer located in the centre of the case head. The system is suitable for reloading the cartridge case and is suited to high pressure ammunition. See also the entries for Berdan and Boxer.
