A mode of drawing an image on a Cathode Ray Tube (CRT). In this mode the electron beam is deflected to any required position on the CRT face and held as long as desired in order to draw continuous lines of any shape or bright light points. In simulation applications calligraphy is used to display bright and very sharp light points (runway lights, street lights, etc.) which stand out realistically from the lower contrast background generated by the raster display.
