An electrical switch on trailers designed to engage the breaks in case the trailer breaks away from the tow vehicle. The switch is connected by a cable to the tow vehicle. Breakaway is detected when the switch cable is pulled out during vehicle separation.

A valve which causes the brakes of a trailer to automatically apply if it should inadvertently become separated from the tow vehicle. A breakaway switch may be used with both electric or surge trailer brake systems. Also known as Breakaway Valve.

A 12 volt switch in the trailer's electric brake system that is tripped by a cable connecting the trailer to the tow vehicle. If the trailer should become detached accidentally, the cable pulls a pin out of the switch, causing the brakes to activate.

a safety device that automatically activates the brakes of a towing vehicle if it separates from the trailer hitch.

A safety device that activates the trailer brakes in the event a trailer becomes accidentally disconnected from its hitch while traveling.

A switch that is wired into the trailers brake system. It is attached from the trailer to the tow vehicle by a cable lanyard. In the event that the trailer and vehicle separate the cable pulls a pin from the switch and the trailer brakes are activated. The switch must have a 12-volt source to operate.
